Breast Healthcare Program
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Missouri and the most common reason for new cancer cases. While every woman is at risk for developing breast cancer, women with disabilities remain significantly disadvantaged due to a variety of factors including less health insurance coverage and decreased access to health services. Paraquad's Breast Health Education and Outreach Program was created to address these needs. The Breast Health Education and Outreach Program provides comprehensive breast health education and facilitates accessible mammography exams for women with disabilities.
Education and Outreach
The Breast Health and Education Program education and outreach provides not only general breast health information, but also specialized breast health information addressing the unique needs of women with disabilities.
Through education workshops and community outreach events, we will increase awareness of the importance of early detection, enhance understanding of regular breast care techniques, describe risk factors associated with breast cancer and preventative behaviors to benefit all women.
Paraquad is collecting information on accessible breast health services through the Greater St. Louis area, resulting in a resource book available to all community members.
The Accessible Mobile Mammography Van
In coalition with Missouri Baptist Medical Center, accessible mammography exams are available for women with disabilities. Screenings are provided at various locations throughout the St. Louis area on the third Monday of each month from 9:00am-3:00pm. Appointments are open to women with disabilities, who have Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance or who are uninsured. We are looking for women who have not had an exam within the past 12 months.
