Peer Support

Since 1979, Paraquad has provided Peer Consultation Program to empower people with disabilities to explore options and to solve problems regarding any life changing experiences including adjustment to a newly acquired disability, changes in living arrangements, or learning to use community services more effectively.

Paraquad's Peer Consultation Program consists of two services, individual peer services and support groups.

The individual peer services pair participants with well-adjusted peer consultants who have similar disabilities. The participants and peer consultants share their personal experience and the peer consultant acts as a mentor.

Paraquad's Support Groups include the Family Participation Program, Men's Support Group, Spinal Cord Injury Support Group and the Women's Support Group.

Peer consultation plays a significant role in the lives of people with disabilities as it introduces them to various community resources and skills training. With the right attitude, skills, and resources people with disabilities are empowered to live independently.
