Accessbile Taxis Hit the St. Louis Streets

Paraquad is excited to announce that wheelchair accessible taxi service is now available in the St. Louis area.  Airport Best Taxi Services, LLC, in collaboration with Paraquad, has added four accessible vehicles to its taxi fleet and is providing regular taxi service for people with disabilities.  The rates and hours of operation will be the same as all other taxis.

President Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law on July 30, 1965, to provide access to quality, affordable health care for thousands of Americans. Since then, Medicare and Medicaid have been cornerstones of the health and security of many Americans, particularly seniors.

Today, more than 44 million Americans depend on Medicare for health care benefits and by 2030, 20% of the US population will be eligible.   More than 58 million Americans depend on Medicaid for health care benefits and long term care coverage.

Grand compromise? Might not be so grand for low-income people with disabilities.

The negotiations continue on raising the debt ceiling and reducing the deficit.  A coalition of Missourians representing the faith community, people with disabilities, retirees, labor, working families, farmers and federal employees have been working the last month to put pressure on Missouri’s Senators to oppose cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and federal workers and take a balanced approach that includes closing corporate loop holes and ending tax cuts.

Do you want more of your money going to healthcare services or insurance companies?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was developed to increase access to healthcare and to reduce ever rising healthcare costs.  One consumer protection included in the ACA is the medical loss ratio (MLR).  Essentially, insurance companies would be required to spend 80%-85% of our insurance premiums on healthcare services.  If they don’t meet the MLR requirement, they are required to send premium rebates to plan members.

Legal Victory: MO HealthNet Must Cover Incontinence Briefs for Adults

On June 24th, a federal district court in Missouri ruled that all adult Missouri Medicaid recipients can obtain medically necessary incontinence briefs.  The Court granted the plaintiffs’ motion for summary judgment and permanently enjoined the State from adhering to its policy of categorizing these supplies as “personal hygiene” items.
