Employment should be based on our skills, knowledge and experience. We expect protection against discrimination on the basis of disability, gender, race, religion, etc. In the past, Missouri has made its own decisions as a state to build on federal laws such as the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Once again, actions by the Missouri legislature threaten to undo the progress we made as a state and weaken the protections meant to give all Missourians a chance to do their jobs without fear of discrimination.

On Friday, Governor Nixon vetoed SB188 in a press conference at the Old Courthouse in St. Louis. The crowd overflowed with advocates, legislators, and other public leaders supporting the veto of SB188. The Governor spoke strongly stating, “Missouri is a state that welcomes all people, and believes that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. That means we have an obligation to put a stop to discrimination…”

SB188, the bill to weaken the MO Human Rights Act, has had a long journey this legislative session. Currently SB188 is on Governor Nixon’s desk. He can choose to sign the bill into law, veto the bill, or do nothing (in which the bill becomes law). Governor Nixon has until May 3rd to take action.

Reversed proposed cut of $2.3 million to maintain 2011 level of funding for 2012 fiscal year.
CDS/In-Home reimbursement Rate:
A 2% rate increase for fiscal year 2012.
