Independence Rally

By

On Tuesday, June 6, more than 200 disability advocates gathered at the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City for the Independence Rally!

Advocates made their voices heard and encouraged Gov. Eric Greitens to sign House Committee Bill 3 (HCB 3), which would protect vital supports and services for 8,000 people with disabilities in Missouri.

Sen. Ryan Silvey, Rep. Nate Walker, Rep. Crystal Quade, Rep. Peter Merideth and Rep. Deb Lavender spoke at the rally to show their support for HCB 3 and the disability community.

Several advocates also spoke and shared their personal stories describing how the cuts would impact their lives. Each person made an impassioned plea for Gov. Greitens to sign HCB 3 and save their services.

To continue the momentum from this rally, we need you to contact the governor’s office and ask him to sign HCB 3 today! The bill would establish the Senior Services Protection Fund by receiving monies from a “sweep” of various other funds.

If Gov. Greitens does not sign HCB 3 and the Senior Services Protection Fund isn’t established, the point level for people enrolled in the Consumer Directed Services program would increase to 24 and providers would see a 3 percent rate cut. This would result in loss of vital services for more than 8,000 people with disabilities in Missouri.

Contact Gov. Greitens and ask him to sign HCB 3 now!
