Rex A. Bertram, a longtime Paraquad board member and advocate for people with disabilities, passed away on Sunday at St.¬†Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis.

Rex, 60, served on Paraquad’s board of directors for more than 25 years. During his tenure, he made many lasting contributions to the organization.

Rex graduated at the top of his class from St. Louis University School of Law, where he also served as the editor in chief of the St. Louis University Law Journal. Following graduation, he worked as a real estate attorney at the law firm of Bertram and Peper, which he co-founded in 1986 with Christian B. Peper Jr.

Rex loved trivia, was the voice of reason and was a super organized person, helping many friends and clients. He was a devoted uncle to his family whom he dearly loved.

Rex is survived by his wife Julie; his father Paul; his sister Jill; his brother Jeff (Patty) and their children Allison Kenner (Kyle) and Scott (son Jace); and in-laws Ted and Lari Hummer.

He is also survived by brother-in-law Matt Hummer (Tara) and their children Dylan, Zoe and Jude; brother-in-law Michael; sister-in-law Nancy (Steve) and their children Sarah, Mary and Clare; and sister-in-law Annie (Scott) and their children Gigi and Ryan.

Rex was a father figure to his many personal care attendants whom he appreciated and loved.

The family thanks the many wonderful nurses and doctors who have cared for him, especially at the end of his life’s journey: Lindsay, Kevin and Mark; Drs. Chawla, Naidu and Jones; and his home health nurses Anne Tierney and Evelyn Howard.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 16 from 4-8 p.m. at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Rd. and on Friday, June 17 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 11735 Denny Rd. Funeral services will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Paraquad or St. Louis University School of Law.

    So sorry to hear of Rex’s passing. He was very kind to my mother when he was her lawyer during her final years. We appreciated him very much and always enjoyed our time together.
